Comet launches SMS gift vouchers via Eagle Eye Solutions

Comet has become the UK's first retailer to launch an SMS voucher service. The SMS vouchers, which can be delivered to any mobile handset via a text message, are designed to speed up transactions and make customers' lives easier.

The SMS vouchers, developed in conjunction with Eagle Eye Solutions, will initially be trialled by Comet’s B2B customers, including insurance companies, but will eventually be available to all customers.

The text message contains a ten digit number which is entered into the till system and is redeemed in a similar way to pre-loaded plastic cards. Comet’s SMS vouchers can be fully or partially spent and any remaining value is sent to the customer in a second SMS message. The transaction is fully secure and authenticated, preventing any fraud. It also has environmental benefits as it removes any plastic or paper from the process.
